about beagles and berries....

its that time of year again, July! Berries everywhere we walk. Black raspberries, some raspberries, later blackberries. Holy cats they are tasty. Our dogs love them. Penny gets the low branches, we get the high ones.

This feels like the busiest week or weeks of my life. I have a massive arts fair in Binghamton, NY downtown Friday-Saturday-Sunday, early to late. I don't do many fairs, but last year it was 2 excellent days for me and now it will be 3 days. The kiln is on every moment, I am squeezing in every last item I can make.

I am picking as many as I can.
I use to have a horse that would eat them as i picked- big teeth I was always careful picking with him

Penny can eat the berries faster than you can pick them, though, I bet. The berries look like they are sweet. I sure would like to plant some here. We are talking about doing that next year.

This is funny, I was just mixing fresh berries and yogurt for breakfast and my Beagle/Whippit mix was begging. I told her dogs don't eat berries but she told me I was wrong. So did Penny.

Why shouldn't a beagle reap the benefits of the season?

Hope you do well at the fair!

Ooooh I miss those wild berries. When I was a kid I'd go berry picking with my mom and grandparents---they knew of all the best secret places where they grew. Our only competition was bears, which we'd see sometimes at a distance eating them. Those little tiny strawberries... those big plumb blackberries---I loved them ALL!!!!!

That's hilarious that Penny likes berries. But I shouldn't be too surprised.. Benny loves watermelon.
